By 2030, SA will have lower rainfall and higher temperatures and these challenges will bring the threat of new pests and pathogens. Available farmland is expected to decline due to increased urbanisation and land use conflicts and land brought for cropping will be, by definition, marginal.
In addition, end users of SA grain will continue to demand greater assurance in the integrity of their food and its supply chain.
The industry must meet these challenges, ensuring that its current programs and resources are prepared to meet these future requirements or creating the programs, structures and resources that will.
This working group will focus on ensuring the SA grain industry has the culture to deliver programs to meet future needs in a positive and proactive way, rather than being compliance driven.
