YP Landowners Group: Protest 12pm Thursday 7 November 2013

Nov 04, 2013

The YP Landowners Group are organising a Farmer’s Protest rally which is to be held on the steps of Parliament House on Thursday 7th November 2013 at 12 noon.

The group has grave concerns that their SA farmland and hence long-term sustainable future could be lost to large-scale mining.  GPSA has been provided the following information from Mr Brenton Davey of Pine Point, Yorke Peninsula.

"We are holding a protest rally on the steps of Parliament House, including a convoy of about 6 semi-trailers (with large banners/signs on the sides of the trailers) which will led by police escorts into the city (via 2 routes) and will be stopping directly outside parliament house to make a stand for all farmers and affected communities within SA.

A large gathering of people on the steps of parliament is planned, with farmers from the West Coast, South East, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, and Riverland and beyond coming on board to speak as one voice and unite together.

We understand that a lot of farmers may have commenced harvest, however, we feel that if we don’t make a stand now, in a few years time we may not have another harvest at all!"

Mr Davey can be contacted on 0418 805463.
